Marvin Capehart has been the Baptist Convention of New Mexico’s legislative liaison since 1998. Assisting him in his work/ministry at the Roundhouse in Santa Fe is his wife, Jan.
Capehart was recently honored by Albuquerque Christian radio station KKIM (AM 1000 and 94.7FM) for hosting the longest-running radio talk show in New Mexico, “Ask the Pastor,” since the show’s beginning in 1978. He retired as pastor of First Baptist Church of Alameda in Albuquerque in 1995, after leading the congregation for 28 years. He didn’t retire from the ministry, though, continuing his Saturday morning radio program and his service as a police chaplain, which has now spanned 39 years. Capehart grew up in St. Louis, Mo., and is a graduate of Southwest Baptist College, Bolivar, Mo., and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas. He began his ministry as a music and youth director and went on to pastor churches in Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas and Colorado before coming to New Mexico.
